York Croquet Club
Playing Association Croquet in the heart of Yorkshire
York Croquet Club is a small, friendly club playing Association Croquet – the Queen of Games – not far from York’s city walls. New members are always very welcome. Croquet is sociable, socially distanced, absorbing and great to play. Join us!
York Croquet Club began life in 1988 and meets on the Club’s croquet lawns at Scarcroft Green, Scarcroft Road, York. A number of our members are qualified coaches and we offer taster sessions and introductory courses for those wanting to explore the delights of this absorbing game. There are no special requirements other than flat-soled footwear. All equipment is supplied.
Because croquet relies on strategy not strength, it can be played on equal terms by people regardless of gender or age. The main playing season runs from April to early October; a social programme keeps us together during the winter months and we are also experimenting with winter play. We are lucky enough to have three of the best croquet lawns in Yorkshire and two small practice lawns.
We offer croquet for community groups, and croquet for work team-building sessions. Or why not add croquet to an outdoor event? – we can hire modern or vintage croquet equipment at reasonable rates.
